Walking 250,000 steps for charity

Challenge Update: we completed the challenge! We both walked over 300,000 steps in January and raised a fantastic £396.25 for the Miscarriage Association. Thank you for all the kind donations

I’ve set myself a challenge for the start of 2022. To walk 250,000 steps in January to raise money for the Miscarriage Association.

I love to walk. When I’m on holiday I will often complete about 60,000 steps in a week (when my knees behave and I have lots of spare time). But to walk 250,000 steps whilst working full-time will be a new challenge entirely.

I’ve often thought about setting myself a walking challenge, and what better way to do it than raising money for a fantastic charity in the process.

The Miscarriage Association are challenging their supporters to complete 250,000 steps throughout January. This is the same number of pregnancies that are estimated to end in miscarriage in the UK each year.

Miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and molar pregnancy can be distressing at any time. The recent pandemic has made it especially difficult for many, with limited access to services and partners often unable to attend scans.

Throughout the pandemic the M.A has supported thousands of people through their helpline, live chat and online support services. The majority of their income comes from public donations and fundraising activities. They receive no statutory funding.

As I write this blog post it is currently the 4th January and I’ve already completed over 39,000 steps.

If you would like to follow along or support us (my husband Mike will be joining me every step of the way) by making a donation, please visit our Just Giving page: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jo-evernden

Thank you!
